Plastic or Glass or Copper Water Bottle?

One of the most important things to keep yourself healthy is by keeping your body hydrated by drinking sufficient amount of water every day. When it comes to drinking water, the only factor we stress about is its purification. But do you ever stop and think about where and how you are storing the water? The container in which the water is stored often interacts with the composition of water. In the older days, water was stored in earthen pots, but today water bottles or other containers are used largely in place of those. These bottles/containers are usually made of plastic or glass. Both glass and plastic have their own pros and cons. While glass does not mess with your health at all, it is extremely fragile for daily use. Plastic, on the other hand, is a much more convenient option, but at the same time, it is really bad for human health and the environment. Another not so popular option is copper water bottles. Most people are not familiar with the concept of copper water bottles and it may come to them as a surprise, but copper vessels have been used to store water for hundreds of years.

Plastic vs. Glass vs. Copper

One common chemical used in the making of plastic water bottles is BPA or Bisphenol A. This particular chemical is associated with the emergence of a number of diseases including cancer. They also contain a number of other chemicals which slowly leach into the water. BPA exposure can affect the development of brain cells and behavior. This is the reason why it is suggested to dispose of mineral water bottles after a single use. Plastic bottles may also start smelling after prolonged used and thus should be avoided.

Glass, on the other hand, is an inert material. Water stored in a glass vessel does not get contaminated in any way at all. But, you must check the glass container for the presence of cadmium and lead. Also, glass bottles are a little expensive as compared to plastic ones. And, you need to be extra careful as these are super fragile.

Much different from the two options mentioned above, copper water bottles are neither unhealthy nor fragile. Water stored in a copper water bottle is chemically balanced and is, in fact, beneficial for human health. Copper is oligodynamic in nature, which means it works as a natural sterilizer and kills all the harmful bacteria present in the water. The best part is that copper is a mineral required by our body to function properly, and copper infused water is a great way to fulfill that requirement.

This concludes that the best material for storing water is definitely copper.
